The Ranger's Cabin
Built of rough logs and stubbornness, this one-room cabin has clearly weathered more than its share of storms. A pot-bellied stove sits in one corner, almost always lit and almost always with a kettle on, and the walls are crowded with maps, snowshoes, coils of rope and a stuffed owl with an expression of deep disapproval. A narrow cot is pushed beneath the single window.
A big table takes up the middle of the room, strewn with logbooks, lanterns and half-mended gear, with a couple of chairs pulled up to it for visitors. The door, which sticks in wet weather, leads back out to the Trailhead.
